In-House Counsel

Phil Bainbridge is responsible for general corporate legal and governmental matters for Centaur. A practicing attorney since 1968, he formerly worked at one of Indiana’s oldest and largest law firms where he practiced government and corporate law.

Phil served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 1966 to 1978, a part of which time he served as Speaker of the House. During his terms in the legislature he served on numerous committees including the Commission on Medical Education, the State Budget Committee and the Joint Committee on Taxation. He was appointed a Sagamore of the Wabash by Indiana Governors Ed Whitcomb, Otis Bowen, MD, and Senator Evan Bayh. In 2003 the Speaker of the House of Representatives appointed Phil to the first board of directors of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.

In addition to his career as a lawyer and legislator, he has taught business law and labor law at Purdue University. His business successes include founding the Merrillville Bank & Trust Company, the cable television system in Northwest Indiana and the Indiana Motorsports Association.

He serves on the boards of the Community Foundation of Boone County, The English Speaking Union and the Indiana Motorsports Association, for which he serves as Secretary General Counsel. Phil presently performs services for the United Kingdom in his capacity as British Honorary Consul.
