Hoosier Park opened in 1994 as a Standardbred and Thoroughbred race track located about 30 minutes north of Indianapolis off Interstate 69. Originally developed by a partnership comprised of Centaur, Churchill Downs Inc. (CDI) of Louisville, Ky., and Conseco Insurance Co. of Carmel, Ind., Hoosier Park Racing & Casino is now fully owned and managed by Centaur. Hoosier Park also provides excellent off-track betting locations in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Merrillville. Until 2003, Hoosier Park was the sole pari-mutuel horse racing business in Indiana.
In addition to providing entertainment and gaming options to hundreds of thousands of spectators each year, Hoosier Park provides significant economic benefits to the state of Indiana. Hoosier Park serves as a major employer and taxpayer for the state. Its focus on horse racing is key to the state’s agriculture industry, and the income generated from breeding, selling and caring for horses is significant.
Following passage of Indiana legislation allowing slot machines at racetracks, Hoosier Park completed a 92,000-square-foot addition in June 2008, featuring 2,000 state-of –the-art slot machines, expanded food and beverage offerings and dynamic new entertainment venues.
